Roo Email

As a graduate of UMKC, you can receive a free UMKC Outlook Live e-mail account.

Use your Roo-email address to show your Roo Pride, to receive your eRoos newsletter and other alumni e-mail, for an alternate professional e-mail address, or even to put on your resume as you are job searching.

Your Roo e-mail address will be based on a student-type username, usually your initials followed by three random letters or numbers.

    Example:  Alumnus Joey K. Roo = JKR12a@mail.umkc.edu

An important note:
You must log on to your account at least once every six months or the e-mail account and its contents will be deleted by Microsoft.

To claim your free UMKC Outlook Live e-mail account, simply fill out the request form.  We do ask that you read and accept the UM Acceptable Use Policy that is referenced on the form.

You can use the electronic version (click on "e-form" below) or you can print off the hard copy version and send it back to us.

If you choose the hard copy form, you can return it any one of three ways:

DID YOU GRADUATE AFTER 2010?

If you graduated after February 2010, your student e-mail address remained active as long as you logged on to it at least once every six months.  That address is your lifetime Roo e-mail address, as long as Microsoft retains this program.  Inactivity for longer than six months, and Microsoft most likely deleted your account and any associated data.  If your student address was deactivated, you may sign up for an alumni address.
Unsure if your account still exists?  E-mail us and we'll check.  We need your name, contact information (address/phone), graduation year and degree(s) to verify you.  Send your information to Kathryn Houston at houstonk@umkc.edu.

FACULTY AND STAFF

Alumni who are current faculty or staff (including adjunct positions) are not eligible and should continue to use their current UMKC e-mail address.  Once you officially retire, or otherwise leave the university, you may sign up for an alumni address.

FAQ’s

Why do you ask for an alternate e-mail address on the form?
So that we can contact you with your new Roo-mail address and login credentials.  If no alternate is given, we will contact you by phone.

Why do you ask for my address?
To verify you as an alumnus, we ask for several identifying markers including full name, address and degree information.  This also helps your alma mater keep your alumni information up-to-date.

Why do you ask for my maiden or other name?
Some of our alumni are still recorded in the University database under their maiden names, or name they used when attending UMKC like an easier to pronounce nickname, etc. Providing that name can help us find you in the database to verify you as an alumnus.  This also helps your alma mater keep your alumni information up-to-date.

How long does it take to process my form?
It depends on a few factors – how many requests we get at a time, the time of year the request is made as it relates to workload, staff availability for processing (we take holiday vacations too!), etc.  However, in general, anywhere from three work days to two weeks is the average processing time.  *Please note: at the beginning of the semester during peak student registration times, there may also be a slight delay.

Can I use my new account immediately?
Yes.  Once you receive your login credentials from us, you are ready to go.

What does my e-mail address look like?
Typically, your e-mail address will be based on a student-type username, usually your initials followed by three random letters or numbers.  Example:  Alumnus Joey K. Roo = JKR12a@mail.umkc.edu  (Please note, if your name has changed since you were a student but we did not have that update in our alumni database, the system may still generate your e-mail address using your initials (i.e. maiden name) from when you were a student.  We are working on a solution.)
