Featuring special lecturer* and UMKC alumna, Jeanne Drewes (B.A. '76)

Jeanne Drewes has served as the Chief of Binding and Collections Care at the United States Library of Congress since June 2006 and also oversees the Mass Deacidification Program. Drewes is an active member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Library Association, by whom she was named recipient of the 2017 Ross Atkinson Lifetime Achievement Award. She has received recognition for her work in Cuba as well as her work within the association. Before coming to the Library of Congress, Jeanne was Assistant Director for Access and Preservation at Michigan State University Libraries, and head of Preservation at Johns Hopkins University Library. During her time at these universities, she organized student projects in Cuba to assist in preserving that country’s heritage. She has lectured widely on the topic of Cuban small press cooperatives including curating a traveling exhibition of one small press Ediciones Vigia located in Matanzas.
