Governing Board Nominations

Term of Office & Meetings 

Members of the Board serve two-year terms and are expected to attend meetings of the board, are held quarterly in September, November, February, and May.  All meetings except the November meeting are held the second Tuesday of the month via Zoom from 11:30 - 1 p.m. (CST/CDT). Terms are renewable for up to three consecutive terms (six years total).

Board members are asked to be Contributing or Lifetime members of the Association.

Desirable Board Member Attributes

Board members should present a broad perspective and should bring a breadth of experience and points of view. A wide variety of volunteer experiences is preferred. The Association seeks diversity of its board members, including by age, gender, degree type, school, ethnicity, geographic distribution, and range of engagment with UMKC. 

In evaluating nominations, the Alumni Association Nominations Committee considers some or all of the following:

  • Awareness and understanding of the Alumni Association's programs; demonstrated committment to UMKC, alumni engagement and serving others.
  • Awareness and familiarity with UMKC's strategic plan.
  • Enthusiasium and willingness to be an advocate for UMKC and to adhere to the vision, mission, values and priorities of the Alumni Association and the University.
  • Demonstrated volunteer leadership, collaboration, initiative and follow-through.
  • Willingness to be a Contributing and/or Lifetime Member of the Alumni Association.
  • Ability to seek and gain consensus; consider different viewpoints and perspectives.

Nominations for terms beginning in August 2024 are now closed. We are now accepting nominations for the term beginning August 2025. Nominations for the next term will close on March 31, 2025.
