The need for a non-UMKC email is due to changes implemented in 2021 by the University of Missouri System around retention of university-owned email accounts upon separation from the university. Alumni can retain email one year from the end of the last enrolled term. The one year of continued support following graduation allows alumni to transition to using their own email accounts for professional and personal use. Similarly, faculty/staff not eligible for an account past separation are encouraged to work with HR prior to leaving the university.
