Regnier Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation

The Regnier Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation inspires and nurtures entrepreneurs and innovators through transformational education, research and programs. Our programs are designed to advance entrepreneurship and innovation across the University of Missouri-Kansas City campus, locally in the Kansas City region and around the world.

We help facilitate early-stage startups from the concept phase to a sustainable launch in a safe environment of learning, experimenting and mentoring.

All RIEI efforts are funded by a combination of funds from the UMKC Bloch School of Management, the Regnier Family Foundation, Kauffman Foundation – and importantly, from donors like you!

Please consider helping the Regnier Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation team advance its mission and student programs. Our mission is to develop the next generation of entrepreneurs through expertise, energy and insight – and we would not be able to do that without you.

Current programs:

Entrepreneurship Scholars (E-Scholars): An early-stage accelerator program accepting 70 ventures a year in person and online. Focused on early-stage ventures, most E-Scholars begin the program in the idea stage and are seeking to launch. They explore in and out of the classroom, learning how to develop a scalable and sustainable venture.
Mentor Programs: We offer students a network of more than 150 instructional coaches. Our mentors serve as one-on-one coaches, mentors-in-residence, competition judges, classroom lecturers and more. They provide expertise in a variety of areas including funding, legal, product design, technology, marketing and sales.
• Venture Competitions: We spearhead famous campus and community-wide competitions such as the Entrepreneur Quest (EQ) and the Regnier Venture Creation Challenge (RVCC).

Recent awards and accolades:
• Over 300 E-Scholars graduates, 100+ have launched their own revenue-generating ventures, and 70+ have secured outside funding. These ventures include LendingStandard, Enduralock, MagVest, RFP365, and Mobility Designed.!
• Our network of mentors have given 1,000-plus hours to our programs and our students.
• Our competitions, in concert with the UM System and local business, have awarded participants over $400,000 - $138,000 during just the past academic year.
• RIEI was honored as the 2019 Model Program by the U.S. Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
